Grok brand visibility tracking
Grok is xAI's assistant, reaching users through X and its own apps. It is the least observable of the major engines from a site owner's perspective — which is precisely why it is worth tracking deliberately rather than assuming it does not matter.
How Grok builds an answer
Grok answers from the model combined with retrieval, drawing on both the open web and activity on X. That social grounding gives it a different character from the search-index-backed assistants: discussion and recency can carry more weight than they would in an answer assembled from a crawled index alone.
Crawler access
xAI publishes no retrieval-specific crawler token. Independent log studies have found Grok fetching pages behind ordinary browser user-agents, spread across many IP addresses, with nothing to distinguish the request from a human visitor. There is no robots.txt rule that reliably controls it, and no way to attribute Grok traffic from your logs.
